Our Church & Beliefs

Who We Are

We are located in the village of Gardenstown (also known as Gamrie) which lies on the Banffshire coast between Macduff and Fraserburgh. We’re a church of all ages who want to:

Know Jesus: Christianity centres on glorious person of Jesus Christ, and the amazing thing is that Jesus can be known. We encounter Jesus in the gospel, which is an invitation to know him and to become a part of his kingdom. The whole journey of following Jesus begins coming to know him through the gospel.

Grow with Jesus: Following Jesus is a journey, and it is a journey of growing towards maturity. We come to Jesus as we are, but he doesn’t leave us as we are – he changes us. Essential to Christian growth is a regular, balanced and varied diet of God’s Word – the Bible. We also need fellowship, the Sacraments (the Lord’s Supper and Baptism) and, crucially, prayer. These are the things we focus on as aim to “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ”.

Go for Jesus: The news about Jesus is too good to keep to our ourselves! We want everyone to know. So we aim to be equipped and encouraged to tell people about Jesus in our community and wherever God calls us to go. We long to see the next generation of Christians raised up in Gamrie who will keep up this calling of Knowing, Growing and Going!

The church has a long history of supporting gospel work both at home and abroad, and we love welcoming back those we pray for, to hear updates from the field and to renew our fellowship with them.

What We Believe

Gardenstown New Church is:

Christian – We are a Christian church. We believe in one, universal church of Jesus Christ and affirm the ancient ecumenical creeds of the Christian faith.

Protestant – We trace our particular tradition to the Scottish Reformation of 1560 and the Second Reformation of 1638. We commit ourselves to scriptural authority and salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

Reformed – All of our office bearers subscribe to the Westminster Confession of Faith [hyperlink] as a faithful summary of what the Bible teaches.

Presbyterian – Our church is governed by a plurality of elders and is a congregation of the Free Church of Scotland.

Biblical – We believe the Bible. Therefore, biblical preaching, the regular administration of the sacraments, and prayer are the hallmarks of our corporate life in keeping with Acts 2:42.

Gospel-Driven – At the heart of our corporate life is the good news of God’s grace in Christ to sinful people in a fallen world.

Christ-Centred – The central focus of our ministry is the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ; His perfectly obedient life, His sin-bearing death, His present intercession for His people at the right hand of God the Father, and His coming again in glory.

We are grateful to All Souls Church in Green Camp, MI, for permission to use and adapt this summary of our beliefs.
